The rental vehicle must be used safely, lawfully and only under the conditions agreed to in the rental contract. These rules protect the driver, passengers, the vehicle and other road users. Please make sure every authorized driver understands them before driving.

Drivers and Permitted Use
Driver Eligibility
Only Registered Drivers May Drive
The vehicle may be driven only by people who:
- Presented all required original driving documents at pick-up;
- Were verified by our staff; and
- Were recorded as authorized drivers when the rental contract was signed.
Having a valid licence does not automatically authorize another person to drive the rental vehicle.
No Transfer
Do Not Re-rent, Lend or Transfer the Vehicle
You must not re-rent the vehicle, lend it to another person, hand over its control, or allow an unregistered person to drive it.
The renter remains responsible for the vehicle throughout the rental period. Unauthorized use may violate the rental contract and may affect insurance or compensation coverage.
Need to Add Another Driver?
Contact Sunrise Rent a Car before that person drives. The additional driver must present the required original documents and receive approval. Never allow the person to drive first and request authorization later.
Vehicle Equipment and Documents
Leave Everything in Place
Do Not Remove, Disconnect or Modify Vehicle Equipment
Equipment and items supplied with the vehicle are part of the rental vehicle and must be returned in their original condition. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Recording cameras and dashcams: do not disconnect, switch off, cover, reposition or change settings. Do not remove memory cards or delete recordings.
- Seat covers and protective items: do not remove, cut, fold away or reposition them. If something becomes loose, contact us.
- Keys, remote controls, keychains and identification tags: keep all supplied parts together. Do not remove tags or attach items that may damage the key or ignition area.
- Vehicle documents: keep all documents stored in the vehicle, normally in the glove compartment. Do not remove, discard, write on or use them for another purpose.
- Installed accessories and cables: do not dismantle, rewire, replace or attach equipment using adhesives, screws or permanent fixtures.
If Equipment Is Not Working
Do not attempt repairs or alterations yourself. Take a photo if possible and contact us for instructions. Damage, loss, disconnection or unauthorized modification may result in repair, replacement, recovery or downtime charges.
Safe Parking
Every Time You Park
Secure the Vehicle Properly
- Park only where parking is legally permitted and the surface is stable.
- Bring the vehicle to a complete stop and select P (Park) on an automatic transmission.
- Apply the parking brake firmly, even on apparently level ground.
- Before leaving, confirm that the vehicle cannot move, the engine and lights are off, the windows are closed and the doors are locked.
- Keep the key with you and never leave the vehicle running unattended.
Rain and Flooding
Avoid Areas with a High Flood Risk
Okinawa can experience sudden heavy rain, typhoons and localized flooding. Whenever possible, avoid parking in low-lying locations, underpasses, areas next to rivers or drainage channels, and places known to collect water.
Never drive into a flooded road or standing water when the depth or road condition is uncertain. If conditions change while the vehicle is parked, move it only when it is safe and lawful to do so.

During the Rental
Use with Care
Protect the Vehicle
Drive according to Japanese traffic laws, road conditions, weather and the vehicle's limitations. Do not overload the vehicle or use it in a way that may cause damage.
Do not make repairs, install parts, apply stickers or make mechanical, electrical or cosmetic changes without prior authorization from Sunrise Rent a Car.
Problems and Warnings
Stop and Contact Us
If a warning light appears, the vehicle makes an unusual sound, equipment is damaged, a key or document is lost, or you believe the vehicle may be unsafe:
- Stop in a safe location;
- Do not continue driving if doing so may worsen the problem; and
- Contact Sunrise Rent a Car promptly and follow the instructions provided.
Accidents, Damage or Contact with Another Object
Report the event immediately, even if the damage appears minor. Do not postpone reporting until vehicle return. Failure to follow the required reporting procedure may affect insurance or compensation coverage.
Before Anyone Drives
- The driver was verified and named in the rental contract.
- The driver understands Japanese road rules and the vehicle controls.
- No camera, document, cover, key tag or installed accessory has been removed or altered.
- The driver knows to apply the parking brake and avoid flood-risk locations.
- The driver knows to stop safely and contact us if an accident, warning or problem occurs.
