Important rules about vehicle use, equipment, authorized drivers and responsibilities during your rental.
The rental vehicle must be used safely, lawfully and only under the conditions agreed to in the rental contract. These rules protect the driver, passengers, the vehicle and other road users. Please make sure every authorized driver understands them before driving.
The vehicle may be driven only by people who:
Having a valid licence does not automatically authorize another person to drive the rental vehicle.
You must not re-rent the vehicle, lend it to another person, hand over its control, or allow an unregistered person to drive it.
The renter remains responsible for the vehicle throughout the rental period. Unauthorized use may violate the rental contract and may affect insurance or compensation coverage.
Contact Sunrise Rent a Car before that person drives. The additional driver must present the required original documents and receive approval. Never allow the person to drive first and request authorization later.
Equipment and items supplied with the vehicle are part of the rental vehicle and must be returned in their original condition. This includes, but is not limited to:
Do not attempt repairs or alterations yourself. Take a photo if possible and contact us for instructions. Damage, loss, disconnection or unauthorized modification may result in repair, replacement, recovery or downtime charges.
Okinawa can experience sudden heavy rain, typhoons and localized flooding. Whenever possible, avoid parking in low-lying locations, underpasses, areas next to rivers or drainage channels, and places known to collect water.
Never drive into a flooded road or standing water when the depth or road condition is uncertain. If conditions change while the vehicle is parked, move it only when it is safe and lawful to do so.
Drive according to Japanese traffic laws, road conditions, weather and the vehicle's limitations. Do not overload the vehicle or use it in a way that may cause damage.
Do not make repairs, install parts, apply stickers or make mechanical, electrical or cosmetic changes without prior authorization from Sunrise Rent a Car.
If a warning light appears, the vehicle makes an unusual sound, equipment is damaged, a key or document is lost, or you believe the vehicle may be unsafe:
Report the event immediately, even if the damage appears minor. Do not postpone reporting until vehicle return. Failure to follow the required reporting procedure may affect insurance or compensation coverage.
Do not store or leave fireworks, fuel, flammable liquids, gas canisters, aerosol cans, lighters, matches, loose batteries, power banks or other combustible, explosive, pressurized or heat-sensitive items inside the vehicle.
Mobile phones, tablets, cameras, portable chargers and other devices containing lithium batteries must not be left inside a parked vehicle, particularly in direct sunlight or during hot weather. The interior of a closed vehicle can become extremely hot and may cause batteries to swell, leak, rupture, ignite or start a fire.
Fireworks or similar products that may be legally purchased in Japan may be transported only when permitted by law, for the minimum time reasonably necessary, in their original packaging and under the customer’s continuous supervision. They must never be stored or left unattended in the vehicle.
Charging batteries or electronic devices inside the vehicle while it is parked and unattended is prohibited. Items must not be placed on the dashboard, seats or in any location exposed to direct sunlight or excessive heat.
If any battery or item becomes unusually hot, swollen, damaged, leaking, smoking or emits an unusual smell, stop the vehicle in a safe location, move away from it and immediately contact emergency services when necessary and Sunrise Rent a Car. Do not continue driving or attempt to handle an item that may ignite or explode.
The customer is responsible for all fire damage, contamination, cleaning, recovery expenses, loss of use and third-party losses resulting from the possession, transportation, storage, charging or improper handling of such items, to the extent permitted by applicable law. Insurance, CDW or other protection products may not apply where these rules were violated or where the incident was not immediately reported.
