Vehicle Use After Damage

Damage, impact or an unusual symptom can change whether a rental vehicle may remain in use. Follow Sunrise Rentacar's instructions before continuing your trip.

A vehicle that can still move is not necessarily a vehicle that can safely or properly continue the rental. Only Sunrise Rentacar decides whether a damaged vehicle may remain in service.

Do Not Decide on Your Own

The renter, driver, passenger, repair shop or other third party may not independently authorize continued use of the vehicle.

Statements such as “it is only plastic,” “it is just a scratch,” “the light still works” or “the car feels normal” do not establish that the vehicle is safe, legal or suitable to continue the rental.

Report and Wait for Instructions

After any collision, impact, new damage, warning light, fluid leak, unusual sound, vibration or change in vehicle behavior:

  • Stop in a safe place.
  • Do not continue driving unless necessary for immediate safety.
  • Contact Sunrise Rentacar promptly.
  • Send the requested photos, videos, location and incident details.
  • Follow police, emergency and accident-reporting procedures when applicable.

Inspection May Be Required

Remote photographs or the customer's description may not reveal hidden structural, mechanical, electrical or safety-related damage.

Sunrise Rentacar may require physical inspection, diagnostic testing, towing, recovery or delivery to a designated location before deciding whether further use is permitted.

Evidence May Need to Be Preserved

The vehicle may be recalled to inspect and preserve dashcam recordings, vehicle data and other relevant evidence before it is lost, overwritten or altered.

Do not switch off, remove, disconnect, format or interfere with the dashcam or its memory card.

Sunrise May Rely on Objective Evidence

Customer statements are important, but they do not determine the vehicle's condition. Sunrise Rentacar may evaluate photographs, video, dashcam recordings, warning indicators, vehicle data, physical inspection, repair-shop findings, police information and other available evidence.

If a customer's description conflicts with objective evidence, operational and contractual decisions may be based on the evidence reasonably available to Sunrise Rentacar.

Continued Use Can Be Refused or Revoked

Sunrise Rentacar may order the vehicle to be parked, returned, inspected or recovered at any time after damage is reported or discovered. Permission initially given to continue driving may later be withdrawn if new symptoms, evidence or safety concerns appear.

If Sunrise instructs you to stop using or return the vehicle, you must comply immediately. Continuing to drive without authorization may aggravate the damage, create safety risks and affect the application of CDW, protection plans, insurance or other contractual benefits.

Return or Recovery of the Vehicle

Depending on the circumstances, Sunrise Rentacar may require the vehicle to be:

  • returned to the company;
  • parked at a safe approved location;
  • transported by roadside assistance or tow truck; or
  • taken to a repair shop selected or approved by Sunrise.

The customer does not have the right to choose a repair shop, order repairs or negotiate work on Sunrise Rentacar's behalf without prior authorization.

Authorized Drive to a Repair Shop

In limited cases, Sunrise Rentacar may specifically authorize the customer to drive the vehicle to a designated repair shop or inspection point.

This is a discretionary exception, not a customer entitlement. Authorization may include a specific route, destination, deadline or other conditions and may be revoked at any time.

The Rental May End for That Vehicle

If Sunrise Rentacar determines that the damaged vehicle should no longer remain in service, the customer's use of that vehicle ends when instructed, even if the vehicle can still be driven.

Unused rental time may be non-refundable when permitted by the rental agreement and applicable policy, particularly when the damage, incident or resulting interruption is attributable to the customer or occurred while the vehicle was under the customer's responsibility.

A Replacement Vehicle Is Not Automatic

A replacement vehicle is subject to availability, vehicle class, operating conditions, the circumstances of the incident and approval by Sunrise Rentacar.

The customer may be required to make and pay for a new reservation to continue the trip. Sunrise does not guarantee an immediate replacement, the same model, the same class or delivery to the customer's location.

Time and Travel Disruption

The customer may need to spend time reporting the incident, waiting for instructions, meeting roadside assistance, returning the vehicle, attending an inspection or taking the vehicle to an authorized repair shop. This time and any resulting disruption are not automatically compensable or refundable.

Related transport, recovery, delivery, inspection and operational costs may be charged when the rental agreement, protection conditions or applicable policy makes the customer responsible.

What You Must Do

  1. Stop safely and prevent further damage.
  2. Report the incident immediately, even if the damage appears minor.
  3. Document the condition with clear photos and video as requested.
  4. Do not repair, dismantle or modify anything without written or clearly recorded authorization.
  5. Do not continue the trip until Sunrise Rentacar confirms what is permitted.
  6. Follow all return, inspection, towing or repair-shop instructions within the specified time.

When in Doubt, Stop and Contact Us

Protect yourself, the passengers and the vehicle. Do not assume that minor visible damage means continued driving is authorized.
